Reviews Asics Gel-Dedicate 9
The Asics Gel-Dedicate 9 is Asics' entry-level shoe: around €61 in Belgium, 7.4/10 for comfort with Gel cushioning, but a standard AHAR outsole rated 5.8/10 for durability, with no warranty. For the beginner or recreational player, on clay in summer and on carpet in winter.

Verdict
The Asics Gel-Dedicate 9 scores 6.9/10. For around €61 in Belgium, it offers comfortable Gel cushioning (7.4/10), 7.2/10 for grip and lightness, 7.0/10 for stability. Its limit is the outsole, rated 5.8/10 for durability: the rubber is standard AHAR, not the AHAR Plus of the higher models, no wear test has been published and no warranty was found. Its weight and release year are not disclosed in the sources consulted. It has two assets that are rare at this price: a Wide version for wide feet and a carpet version for indoor play. It suits the beginner or recreational player who plays once a week, preferably on clay, where rubber wears little. A heavy player or one who slides on hard courts should look elsewhere. At Nike, the Vapor Lite 3 does better on all five criteria for around €70 (7.9/10 overall, 7.0 for durability), and the Court Lite 4 scores 6.8 for durability for around €67.
Best for : Beginner or recreational player on a small budget

The Gel-Dedicate 9 has standard AHAR rubber, not the AHAR Plus of the Gel-Resolution X and the Gel-Challenger 15. It scores 5.8/10 for durability in our ratings, against 5.6 for the Game FF, 6.8 for the NikeCourt Lite 4, 7.0 for the Nike Vapor Lite 3 and 8.0 for the Gel-Challenger 15. No wear test has been published in the sources consulted and no outsole warranty was found, from the brand or from a retailer. In Belgium, the 2-year legal guarantee covers defects, not wear. The cushioning lasts 45 to 60 hours of play according to the AAPSM; on hard courts, for a heavy player, the rubber may give out first.
Pros
- Lowest price in our best value ranking: around €61 in Belgium, or €1.00 to €1.35 per hour of play
- Comfortable Gel cushioning: 7.4/10 for comfort
- All-court, clay and carpet versions: Belgian summers and winters are both covered
- Wide version for wide feet
- Sold in Belgium at Tennis-Point.be, Passasports, Decathlon.be and Zalando
Cons
- 5.8/10 for durability: standard AHAR rubber, less hard-wearing than AHAR Plus, no outsole warranty found
- Rated lower than the Nike Vapor Lite 3 on all five criteria (6.9/10 against 7.9)
- Weight, drop and release year not disclosed in the sources consulted
How long does the Asics Gel-Dedicate 9 outsole last?
Not as long as the Asics models in AHAR Plus, and no source puts a figure on the gap. The Asics Gel-Dedicate 9 scores 5.8/10 for durability in our ratings, one of the lowest scores in our database of 37 shoes.
The reason is the material. The outsole is AHAR, Asics' abrasion-resistant rubber, but in its standard version, not the AHAR Plus fitted to the Gel-Resolution X and the Gel-Challenger 15. That rubber is listed on the Tennis Warehouse product page, but the model is not among the shoes covered by an outsole warranty. No measured wear test has been published in the sources consulted. I do not convert a score into hours.
The safest reference point concerns the cushioning: 45 to 60 hours of tennis before the midsole is worn out, according to the AAPSM. At one hour a week, that is a full season. The academy also gives a simple sign: deep creases in the midsole, or a shoe that leans when placed on a flat surface, mean it is time to replace it.
The surface decides the rest. On clay, which wears rubber far less than hard courts according to Tennis Companion, a Gel-Dedicate 9 has every chance of reaching those 45 hours with tread left underfoot. On hard courts, for a heavy player or a server who drags a foot, the rubber may go before the foam, at the front first.
No pair is judged without the lifespan of its outsole. This one is the model's weak point, the trade-off for a €61 price. The overall tennis shoe ranking shows what the best-rated outsoles deliver.
Is the Asics Gel-Dedicate 9 any good in 2026?
It is an even entry-level shoe with no standout strength: 6.9/10 in our ratings, for around €61 in Belgium. It sits in 4th place in our best value ranking, where it is the cheapest of the eight pairs.
Comfort comes first, at 7.4/10, with the Gel cushioning. Grip and lightness follow at 7.2/10, stability at 7.0/10. Durability comes last, at 5.8/10. The exact weight, the drop and the release year are not disclosed in the sources consulted.
The build is simple: mesh and synthetic upper, Gel cushioning, standard AHAR rubber. The sources credit it with three qualities: a low price, comfortable cushioning and versions for several surfaces, including carpet. They note two reservations: rubber that lasts less than AHAR Plus, and an undisclosed weight.
Men's or women's, the Gel-Dedicate 9 is available in both cuts in Belgium: Tennis-Point.be and Passasports offer the men's version, Decathlon.be a women's all-court version. A Wide version exists for wide feet.
Who is it for? The beginner or recreational player who goes out once a week and does not want to spend more than €70. An interclub competitor who trains three times a week will wear it out quickly. The Asics page places the Gel-Dedicate 9 in the range, and the comparison tool lines it up with the 36 other models in our database.
Gel-Dedicate 9 or Gel-Dedicate 8: which one to choose?
The Gel-Dedicate 9 by default, because the sources consulted do not say what changes between the two generations. So I give no weight gap, no cushioning gap and no rubber gap.
Here is what is established for the 9: standard AHAR rubber, Gel cushioning, mesh and synthetic upper, all-court, clay and carpet versions, a Wide width available. Our database holds no entry for the Asics Gel-Dedicate 8, and our editorial scores do not cover it. A point-by-point comparison would be made up.
The question mostly comes up when a Gel-Dedicate 8 is still on the shelf at a reduced price. The deciding factor is then the age of the pair, not its number. The AAPSM advises replacing an athletic shoe more than a year old, even lightly used, because foam and rubber dry out. An older version that has sat in stock for a long time has already started that clock.
So its price needs to drop substantially to make up for it, and not by a few euros: at €61, the Gel-Dedicate 9 already works out at €1.00 to €1.35 per hour of play.
Three checks before ordering an 8. First the surface: all-court, clay or carpet, the wording is on the retailer's product page. Then the width, if you have wide feet. Finally the size: a shoe that is too tight fails at the upper before the outsole.
If the price gap is small, take the 9. If you are hesitating between several models rather than between two generations, the tennis shoe ranking for beginners gives other reference points.
Gel-Dedicate 9, Game FF or Gel-Challenger 15: which Asics to choose?
The Gel-Dedicate 9 if you count every euro or play on carpet, the Game FF if you want lightness, the Gel-Challenger 15 if you play more than once a week.
The two entry-level models are close. In our ratings, the Gel-Dedicate 9 scores 6.9/10 overall and the Game FF 7.0/10. The Game FF wins on lightness (7.6 vs 7.2), grip (7.4 vs 7.2) and stability (7.2 vs 7.0), with its Flytefoam cushioning and Trusstic shank. The two are level on comfort, at 7.4/10. The Gel-Dedicate 9 does barely better on durability, 5.8 vs 5.6, and averages around €61 in Belgium against €75.
Two versions make the difference. The Gel-Dedicate 9 comes in a Wide width and in a carpet version, which the Game FF does not offer. It is the only Asics tennis shoe in our sources to come in a carpet version.
The Gel-Challenger 15 plays in another category: 8.2/10 overall, 8.0/10 for durability with AHAR Plus rubber, 8.4/10 for stability, for around €109 in Belgium. The 2.2-point gap in durability is the real issue. It weighs 414 g in a men's US 10.5.
The maths depends on how often you play. At one hour a week on clay, a Gel-Dedicate 9's rubber is enough, and the €48 gap buys nothing. At three sessions a week, or on hard courts in winter, it buys an outsole that lasts.
The Asics Game FF review and the Asics Gel-Challenger 15 review cover those two models in detail.
Nike Vapor Lite 3, NikeCourt Lite 4 or Asics Gel-Dedicate 9: which one on a small budget?
The Nike Vapor Lite 3 for most players: it scores higher on all five criteria, for about €9 more.
In our ratings, the Vapor Lite 3 scores 7.9/10 overall against 6.9/10 for the Gel-Dedicate 9. In detail: durability 7.0 vs 5.8, grip 8.2 vs 7.2, comfort 7.6 vs 7.4, stability 7.8 vs 7.0, lightness 8.6 vs 7.2. It averages around €70 in Belgium, against €61. The durability gap has a source: RunRepeat finds its upper and outsole durable for the price.
The NikeCourt Lite 4 sits between the two, at around €67: 7.5/10 overall, 6.8/10 for durability, 7.8/10 for grip, 7.6/10 for stability, with a reinforced toe where the foot drags on the serve. It matches the Asics on comfort, at 7.4/10, and holds first place in our best value ranking.
Per hour of play, the three are close: €1.10 to €1.50 for the Court Lite 4, €1.15 to €1.55 for the Vapor Lite 3, €1.00 to €1.35 for the Asics. The €6 to €9 gap buys at least one point of durability.
The Gel-Dedicate 9 keeps three arguments, and they matter. RunRepeat advises against the Vapor Lite 3 for wide feet, whereas the Asics comes in Wide. No clay version of the Court Lite 4 was found. And neither Nike has a carpet version in our sources.
The details are in the Nike Vapor Lite 3 review and the NikeCourt Lite 4 review.
How much does the Asics Gel-Dedicate 9 cost in Belgium, and what is it worth per hour of play?
Around €61 in average prices checked in Belgium between June and September 2026. The Tennis Warehouse Europe product page lists it at €74.99; the official Asics price in Belgium has not been verified. You can find it at Tennis-Point.be, Passasports, Decathlon.be and Zalando.
The price that matters is the price per hour of play. Based on 45 to 60 hours before the cushioning wears out, a Gel-Dedicate 9 at €61 works out at €1.00 to €1.35 per hour. At Nike, the Court Lite 4 at €67 comes to €1.10 to €1.50, the Vapor Lite 3 at €70 to €1.15 to €1.55.
This calculation assumes the rubber lasts as long as the foam. On clay, that is likely. On hard courts, with a score of 5.8/10, the outsole may give out before 45 hours, and the real cost per hour rises accordingly.
Winter changes things. On carpet, you need a completely smooth, non-marking outsole, according to Decathlon: too much tread blocks the foot. The Gel-Dedicate 9 comes in a carpet version, and the carpet ("tapijt") section of TennisDirect.be lists these models separately from hard courts. A €61 pair for indoor play, next to a clay pair for summer, remains a manageable budget.
Do not count on a wear warranty. The Gel-Dedicate 9 is not among the models covered by the Tennis Warehouse 6-month guarantee, a US retailer whose guarantee is not valid in Belgium. Tennis Warehouse Europe refers to the manufacturer's warranty, which covers defects but not normal wear.
The article on cost per hour of play applies the same method to nine models.
