Verdict

The Asics Gel-Challenger 15 scores 8.2/10. Its scores are even, with no peak and no hole: 8.4/10 for stability, 8.2/10 for comfort and grip, 8.0/10 for durability thanks to AHAR Plus rubber, the same family as the Gel-Resolution's. For around €109 in Belgium, you get the stability of a baseline shoe at a mid-range price. It has two limits. It has put on weight compared with the 14 (414 g in a men's US 10.5, 7.4/10 for lightness), and RunRepeat measures less shock absorption at the heel. No outsole warranty was found. It suits the club player, beginner or experienced, who plays one to three times a week. At Nike, the GP Challenge Pro does slightly better across the board for around €97 (8.8/10 overall), and the GP Challenge 1.5 reaches 8.6/10 for durability and 9.4/10 for comfort for around €125.

The Gel-Challenger 15 uses AHAR Plus rubber in a modified herringbone, the same rubber family as the Gel-Resolution X. It scores 8.0/10 for durability in our ratings, against 9.0 for the Gel-Resolution X and 8.2 for the Nike GP Challenge Pro. No outsole warranty was found for this model: the US retailer Tennis Warehouse's 6-month guarantee covers the Gel-Resolution X, not the Gel-Challenger. In Belgium, the 2-year legal guarantee covers defects, not wear. The cushioning lasts 45 to 60 hours of play according to the AAPSM; on clay, it will give out before the rubber does.

Pros

  • AHAR Plus rubber with modified herringbone: 8.0/10 for durability, the same rubber family as the Gel-Resolution
  • 8.4/10 for stability, very high for a shoe at around €109
  • Even scores: 8.2/10 for comfort and 8.2/10 for grip
  • Suits beginners and experienced players alike; fourth in our beginner ranking
  • All-court and clay versions sold in Belgium (Tennis-Point.be, Passasports, Decathlon.be, Zalando)

Cons

  • Clear weight gain over the Gel-Challenger 14: 414 g in a men's US 10.5, 7.4/10 for lightness
  • Less absorbent Gel cushioning: 84 SA at the heel according to RunRepeat
  • No outsole warranty found, unlike the Gel-Resolution X at Tennis Warehouse

How long does the Asics Gel-Challenger 15 outsole last?

Long enough for the cushioning to give out first, except for a player who slides on hard courts. The Gel-Challenger 15 scores 8.0/10 for durability in our ratings, a good score for a shoe at around €109.

The rubber explains it. According to the Tennis Warehouse product page, the outsole is AHAR Plus with a modified herringbone. That is the same rubber family as the Gel-Resolution X, Asics' baseline model, rated 9.0/10. The one-point gap comes from the build: the Gel-Resolution X has full-length rubber, with PGUARD reinforcements at the toe and heel. Nothing of the kind is documented on the Gel-Challenger.

No measured wear test was found for this model in the sources consulted, and I do not convert a score into hours. The only solid figure concerns the cushioning: 45 to 60 hours of tennis before the midsole is worn out, according to the AAPSM. At two hours a week, that is five to seven months.

On clay, the surface of more than eight Belgian courts in ten, a Gel-Challenger 15's rubber will still have tread at that point. On hard courts, for a heavy player or a server who drags a foot, it will wear first at the toe and under the inner forefoot, the two classic zones.

No pair is judged without the lifespan of its outsole. This one is decent without being the most durable: the durable tennis shoe ranking shows the models that do better.

Is the Asics Gel-Challenger 15 any good in 2026?

It is a versatile club shoe, released in July 2025, rated 8.2/10 in our ratings. It is fourth in our ranking of tennis shoes for beginners, where it is the top Asics.

Its profile is that of a shoe with no marked weakness. Stability comes first, at 8.4/10. Comfort and grip follow at 8.2/10, durability at 8.0/10. Only lightness drops off, at 7.4/10: 414 g in a men's US 10.5 according to Tennis Warehouse, the weight of a Nike Vapor 12, but without the liveliness of a speed shoe. In a women's US 8.5, it weighs 12.3 oz.

RunRepeat finds it very stable for its price and notes that it suits beginners and experienced players alike. The same lab reports two steps back from the previous version: a clear weight gain and less absorbent cushioning, measured at 84 SA at the heel. The drop is 9 mm.

It comes in an all-court version and a clay version. In Belgium, Tennis-Point.be, Passasports and Zalando offer the first, Decathlon.be the second.

Who is it for? The player who trains one to three times a week, wants a shoe that holds the foot through changes of direction and does not want to pay €160 for a Gel-Resolution X. A competitor looking for speed will look elsewhere.

Gel-Challenger 15 or Gel-Challenger 14: what has changed?

Two things are documented, and neither favours the 15: weight and cushioning.

Weight first. RunRepeat reports a clear weight gain over the Gel-Challenger 14. The 15 weighs 414 g in a men's US 10.5, hence its 7.4/10 for lightness. The 14's exact figure does not appear in the sources consulted, so I give no gap in grams.

Then the cushioning. The lab measures 84 SA of shock absorption at the heel and finds the 15 less absorbent than its predecessor. For a light player, the difference will stay discreet. For a heavy player or sensitive knees, it matters.

What the 15 keeps: the AHAR Plus rubber, the stability, the mid-range price. The other differences are not disclosed.

So should you look for an end-of-line Gel-Challenger 14? The idea holds up if the price drops substantially, since the 14 was lighter and better cushioned. One caveat applies. The AAPSM advises replacing an athletic shoe more than a year old, even lightly used, because foam and rubber dry out. A 14 that has sat in stock for a long time has already started that clock.

The comparison tool lines up the Gel-Challenger 15 with the 36 other models in our database.

Asics Gel-Challenger 15 or Gel-Resolution X: which one to choose?

The Gel-Challenger 15 if you play one to three times a week, the Gel-Resolution X if you wear through outsoles.

Both share AHAR Plus rubber, and the Challenger is designed as the Resolution's little sister. In our ratings, the gap shows criterion by criterion: durability 8.0 vs 9.0, stability 8.4 vs 9.3, grip 8.2 vs 8.8, comfort 8.2 vs 8.4. The Gel-Resolution X wins everywhere except on the scales. It is rated 6.6/10 for lightness, against 7.4/10 for the Challenger: 456 g in a US 10.5 in its 2E version, or 42 g more per shoe.

The durability gap has a cause. According to RunRepeat, the Gel-Resolution X wears less than average in its abrasion test; it has full-length rubber and PGUARD reinforcements at the toe and heel. It is also covered by the US retailer Tennis Warehouse's 6-month outsole guarantee, valid in the United States only. The Gel-Challenger has neither.

That leaves the price. The Gel-Resolution X averages around €130 in Belgium, against a €160 list price. The Gel-Challenger 15 sits around €109. For a recreational player on clay, that €21 buys nothing useful: the cushioning will be worn out before the rubber on both models. For a baseliner who trains on hard courts in winter, it buys months of outsole.

One more argument for the Resolution: it comes in a 2E width. The Gel-Challenger 15 only has a standard fit. The Asics Gel-Resolution X review covers the rest, and the Asics page places both models in the range.

Gel-Challenger 15 or Nike GP Challenge Pro: which mid-priced shoe?

The Nike GP Challenge Pro for most club players: it scores higher everywhere, for about ten euros less.

In our ratings, the GP Challenge Pro scores 8.8/10 overall against 8.2/10 for the Gel-Challenger 15. In detail: durability 8.2 vs 8.0, grip 8.8 vs 8.2, comfort 8.8 vs 8.2, stability 8.6 vs 8.4, lightness 7.8 vs 7.4. It averages around €97 in Belgium, against €109.

Its outsole has been measured. RunRepeat reports a 0.6 mm dent in its abrasion test, in line with the average, with hard rubber at 87.5 HC on the durometer. The lab concludes that its durability matches more expensive models. It also has a rubberised toe guard, useful on serve.

The Gel-Challenger 15 keeps two arguments. Its mesh is not flagged as fragile, whereas the GP Challenge Pro's damages easily according to the reviews collected by RunRepeat. And its men's weight is known, 414 g in a US 10.5, while the Nike's is not disclosed.

If your budget stretches to €125, the Nike GP Challenge 1.5 is in another class: 8.6/10 for durability, 9.4/10 for comfort, the best score in our ratings, at the cost of 456 g in a US 10.5.

The details are in the Nike GP Challenge Pro review and the Nike GP Challenge 1.5 review. The overall ranking sets these three models against the rest.

How much does the Gel-Challenger 15 cost in Belgium, and what is it worth per hour of play?

Around €109 in average prices checked in Belgium between June and September 2026. The official European price is not disclosed. You can find it at Tennis-Point.be, Passasports, Decathlon.be and Zalando.

The price that matters is the price per hour of play. Based on 45 to 60 hours before the cushioning wears out, a Gel-Challenger 15 at €109 works out at €1.80 to €2.40 per hour. That is more than a Nike GP Challenge Pro at €97 (€1.60 to €2.15), and less than a Nike GP Challenge 1.5 at €125 (€2.10 to €2.80) or a Gel-Resolution X at €130 (€2.15 to €2.90).

The surface changes this calculation very little. Clay wears the outsole far less than hard courts, as Tennis Companion points out, and rubber rated 8.0/10 will reach 45 hours on both. Pick the clay version for the summer season: its herringbone clears crushed brick better.

Two uses need a word. On carpet, you need a completely smooth, non-marking outsole, according to Decathlon: neither the all-court nor the clay version is suitable. For padel, our database also lists the Gel-Challenger 15, and its herringbone outsole suits it, but Wilson points out that the two sports do not load the shoe in the same places and advises against swapping pairs.

Do not count on a wear warranty. The Gel-Challenger 15 is not among the models covered by the Tennis Warehouse 6-month guarantee, and Tennis Warehouse Europe refers to the manufacturer's warranty, which covers defects but not normal wear.

The article on cost per hour of play applies the same method to nine models.
