Reviews Asics Gel-Resolution X

The Asics Gel-Resolution X is a baseline shoe built to last: 9.0/10 for durability thanks to its full-length AHAR Plus rubber, 9.3/10 for stability, around €130 in Belgium. It is heavy (425 g in a US 9) and its 6-month warranty only applies in the United States.

Verdict

The Gel-Resolution X scores 8.9/10 because it gives players who wear through outsoles what they are after: full-length AHAR Plus rubber, PGUARD reinforcement at the toe and heel, and wear measured by RunRepeat 0.3 mm below average. Its lateral stability (9.3/10) is the best in its category thanks to Dynawall, and the FF Blast Plus Eco in the heel makes it more comfortable than the Resolution 9. The price is weight: 425 g in a US 9, 456 g for the 2E version in a US 10.5. The 6-month outsole warranty often quoted is that of the US retailer Tennis Warehouse, with no effect on a purchase in Belgium. At Nike, the GP Challenge 1.5 (8.6/10 for durability, 9.4 for comfort) is the closest alternative, for about €5 less.

The Gel-Resolution X has a full-length AHAR Plus rubber outsole with multidirectional lugs and pivot points, plus PGUARD reinforcement at the toe and heel. In RunRepeat's wear test, it wears 0.3 mm less than average. It scores 9.0/10 for durability in our ratings, second in our durable tennis shoe ranking behind the Nike Air Zoom Vapor Cage 4 (9.4). The 6-month warranty belongs to the US retailer Tennis Warehouse, usable once and only for a purchase there; Tennis Warehouse Europe does not offer it. In Belgium, the 2-year legal guarantee covers defects, not wear. The cushioning lasts 45 to 60 hours of play according to the AAPSM.

How long does the Asics Gel-Resolution X last?

Its outsole is among the most durable on the market, but its cushioning lives at the same pace as any other: 45 to 60 hours of play, according to the AAPSM. For a heavy player, there are two clocks to watch.

On the rubber side, Asics brought out the heavy artillery. According to the Tennis Warehouse product page, the outsole is full-length AHAR Plus, with multidirectional lugs and pivot points, and PGUARD technology reinforces the toe and heel, the two areas that serving and braking grind down. In RunRepeat's wear test, it wears 0.3 mm less than average. Tennis Warehouse counts AHAR Plus among the most durable rubbers on the market.

No pair is judged without the lifespan of its outsole, and this one scores 9.0/10 in our ratings, second in our durable tennis shoe ranking, behind the Nike Air Zoom Vapor Cage 4 (9.4).

Then there is the cushioning. Someone playing four hours a week flattens the foam in 11 to 15 weeks, even if the rubber still has tread. Heavier players also wear out their shoes faster, as Tennis.com points out. Watch for deep creases in the foam, a shoe that tilts when placed flat, or feet and knees that ache more after a match: those are the end-of-life signals, before the hole in the outsole.

Does the Gel-Resolution X's 6-month outsole warranty apply in Belgium?

No. It is the most quoted warranty for this model, and it is a misunderstanding.

The Gel-Resolution X, Wide version included, is indeed among the models covered by the Tennis Warehouse 6-month guarantee. But it is a US retailer's guarantee, not an Asics one. It can be used once, for a pair bought from Tennis Warehouse, and applies in the contiguous United States. Its terms are strict: only the rubber outsole is covered, it must be worn through to the midsole or insole, and the toe guard and upper are excluded. The guarantee is void in case of misuse.

On the European side, Tennis Warehouse Europe does not offer this guarantee: its page refers to the manufacturer's warranty, which covers defects but not normal wear. No 6-month Asics outsole warranty was found for Europe.

For a purchase at Tennis-Point.be, Passasports, Decathlon or Zalando, the 2-year legal guarantee of conformity applies: a manufacturing defect is covered, an outsole worn through by play is not. The good news is that the Gel-Resolution X does not need a warranty to last. The brand-by-brand detail is in the article on the 6-month outsole warranty.

Is the Asics Gel-Resolution X any good in 2026?

It remains Asics' benchmark for baseliners who want stability and an outsole that lasts. Released on 10 January 2025 in the United States, it succeeds the Gel-Resolution 9, keeping its architecture while fixing the comfort.

The main change is in the heel: FF Blast Plus Eco foam, paired with Gel and Flytefoam in the forefoot. Tests find it more comfortable than the Resolution 9, and it scores 8.4/10 for comfort in our ratings. Stability remains its signature: Dynawall, an extended lateral support, and Dynalacing lock the foot in place during lateral moves. At 9.3/10, it is one of the most stable shoes on the market, and the Tennis Warehouse guide lists the Gel-Resolution series among the most stable models.

Its flaw fits in one figure: about 425 g in a men's US 9 according to tennis.com, and 456 g for the 2E version in a US 10.5, according to Tennis Warehouse. Tennis Companion ranks it among the heaviest tennis shoes on the market. Hence 6.6/10 for lightness. RunRepeat also notes a few design choices it finds odd, without any effect on durability.

In our ratings it scores 8.9/10 overall, fifth in our overall ranking, behind four Nikes: Vapor 12, GP Challenge 1.5, Vapor Pro 3 and Air Zoom Vapor Cage 4.

Gel-Resolution X or Nike GP Challenge 1.5: which for a player who wears through outsoles?

The Gel-Resolution X if the outsole is your only criterion, the GP Challenge 1.5 if you also want comfort. Both target the same player, the one who hits hard from the back and brakes by sliding.

In our ratings, the Asics wins on durability (9.0 vs 8.6) and stability (9.3 vs 9.0). The Nike wins on comfort (9.4 vs 8.4, the best score in our ratings) and grip (9.0 vs 8.8). According to the Tennis Warehouse product page, the GP Challenge 1.5 has high-abrasion rubber that is denser under the inner forefoot and a drag guard on the inside of the toe, two targeted answers to the same problem. Both are heavy: 456 g in a men's US 10.5 for the Nike, the same as the Asics in 2E. On price, the Nike averages around €125 in Belgium, the Asics around €130.

The most durable Nike remains the Air Zoom Vapor Cage 4, 9.4/10 for durability, rated 4.5/5 for both outsole and toe in the Tennis Warehouse review, with an outsole that wraps up over the toe and inner side. It is a generation older than the 2025 models: check availability in Belgium. The current Nike options are the GP Challenge 1.5 and the Vapor Pro 3 (8.6/10 for durability, Hart rubber up to the toe, around €117).

Details are in the reviews of the Nike GP Challenge 1.5 and the Nike Air Zoom Vapor Cage 4.

Does the Gel-Resolution X come in a wide fit and a clay version?

Yes to both, and it is one of its real strengths. The Gel-Resolution X comes in standard width and 2E (wide), and in a Clay version, sold separately, with herringbone tread across the whole outsole.

The 2E version solves the wide-foot problem common among heavy players. It weighs a little more, about 456 g in a US 10.5, and is covered, like the standard version, by the US retailer Tennis Warehouse's guarantee. Asics also makes the model for children: the Gel-Resolution X GS uses a last designed for growing feet, from UK 2.5 to UK 6.

The Clay version matters in Belgium, where more than eight courts in ten are crushed-brick clay according to RTBF. Tennis-Point.be, Decathlon and Zalando sell it. On clay the rubber works far less than on hard courts: it is the cushioning, after 45 to 60 hours, that will set the pair's end of life, not the outsole. A player who only plays on clay in summer can therefore choose a less armoured model, and keep the all-court Gel-Resolution X for winter on GreenSet, where AHAR Plus shows what it is worth.

For carpet, however, you need a completely smooth, non-marking outsole, which the Gel-Resolution X does not have. The article on clay versus hard court wear explains this two-pair logic.

How much does the Gel-Resolution X cost in Belgium, and what is it worth per hour of play?

Around €130 in average prices checked in Belgium between June and September 2026, against a €160 list price at Tennis Warehouse Europe and Decathlon. You can find it at Tennis-Point.be, Passasports, Decathlon and Zalando. The Clay version was seen at €99.99 at Decathlon Austria, a sign that promotions on this model are frequent.

The price that matters is the price per hour of play. Based on 45 to 60 hours before the cushioning wears out, a Gel-Resolution X at €130 works out at €2.15 to €2.90 per hour. That is more than a GP Challenge 1.5 at €125 (€2.10 to €2.80) or a Vapor Pro 3 at €117 (€1.95 to €2.60).

That calculation changes for a player who wears through outsoles before the cushioning is gone. For them, a less durable pair gets replaced because of a hole in the rubber, not flattened foam, and each hour of play costs more. That is where AHAR Plus pays back its price.

One last lever: a new version lowers the price of the old one. When the Gel-Resolution 9 made way for the X, it went to end-of-line pricing; the same will happen when the next generation comes out. The brand's full range is on the Asics page, and the article comparing tennis outsole rubbers puts AHAR Plus against the other compounds.
