Reviews Asics Solution Speed FF 4
The Asics Solution Speed FF 4 is a speed shoe: 371 g in a men's US 10.5, 9.3/10 for lightness and 9.0/10 for grip, around €132 in Belgium. Its slimmed-down AHAR rubber only scores 6.2/10 for durability, with no outsole warranty.

Verdict
The Asics Solution Speed FF 4 scores 8.6/10: it is one of the lightest tennis shoes in our ratings (371 g in a men's US 10.5, 9.3/10), with 9.0/10 for grip and Flytefoam 18% softer than the FF 3's according to RunRepeat. It pays for that lightness in the outsole. Asics redesigned the AHAR rubber by algorithm so that it is only reinforced where it wears, and durability drops to 6.2/10, the lowest score among Asics' competition shoes. No outsole warranty was found. It is a good choice for a light competitive player who mostly plays on clay; a player who slides on hard courts will wear through it quickly. At Nike, the Vapor 12 does better on durability (7.2) and grip (9.4), and the Vapor Pro 3 reaches 8.6 for durability at around €117.
Best for : Fast competitive player

The Solution Speed FF 4's outsole is AHAR rubber that Asics presents as 'AI-designed': reinforced only where it wears, removed elsewhere to save weight. It scores 6.2/10 for durability in our ratings, against 7.2 for the Nike Vapor 12 and 8.6 for the Nike Vapor Pro 3. No measured wear test and no outsole warranty were found for this model, which is not among the shoes covered by the US retailer Tennis Warehouse's 6-month guarantee. In Belgium, the 2-year legal guarantee covers defects, not wear. The cushioning lasts 45 to 60 hours of play according to the AAPSM; for a player who slides on hard courts, the rubber can give out first.
Pros
- Very light: 371 g in a men's US 10.5 according to Tennis Warehouse, 9.3/10 for lightness
- 9.0/10 for grip; RunRepeat measures a friction coefficient of 1.11 on hard courts
- Flytefoam 18% softer than the Solution Speed FF 3's according to RunRepeat
- Standard fit, more forgiving than the Nike Vapor 12's
- Clay version sold in Belgium (Tennis-Point.be, Passasports)
Cons
- Slimmed-down AHAR rubber: 6.2/10 for durability, fast wear for players who slide
- No outsole warranty found, from the brand or from a retailer
- €160 list price, for an outsole less durable than the Nike Vapor Pro 3's (8.6/10, around €117)
How long does the Asics Solution Speed FF 4 outsole last?
Not as long as Asics' other competition shoes. The Solution Speed FF 4 scores 6.2/10 for durability in our ratings, against 9.0 for the Gel-Resolution X and 7.4 for the Court FF 3. That is a design choice, not a manufacturing flaw.
According to the Tennis Warehouse review, Asics presents an 'AI-designed' AHAR outsole: the rubber is only reinforced where it wears, and removed elsewhere to save weight. You can see the result on the scales, 371 g in a men's US 10.5. You can see it in the wear too. A player who slides, or whose footwork falls outside the expected pattern, grinds down exactly the areas that were slimmed.
The rule is well known. According to Tennis Companion, lightweight shoes generally last less long than stable, heavier models. No measured wear test has been published for the Solution Speed FF 4, and I do not convert a score into hours.
Then there is the cushioning, which runs on its own clock: 45 to 60 hours of play before the midsole is worn out, according to the AAPSM. On clay, that is what will set the pair's end of life. On hard courts, for a heavy player or a slider, the rubber can go first.
No pair is judged without the lifespan of its outsole, and this one is the model's weak point. The durable tennis shoe ranking shows what you get when the rubber comes first.
Is the Asics Solution Speed FF 4 any good in 2026?
It is Asics' speed shoe, and one of the best rated in its category: 8.6/10 overall in our ratings, seventh in our overall ranking and fourth in our competition ranking, behind three Nikes.
It was released on 15 January 2025, in an all-court version and a clay version. Its strengths come down to three figures. Weight first: 371 g in a men's US 10.5 according to Tennis Warehouse, hence 9.3/10 for lightness. Grip next: RunRepeat measures a friction coefficient of 1.11, very strong traction on hard courts, hence 9.0/10. Cushioning last: the Flytefoam is 18% softer than the Solution Speed FF 3's, according to the same lab's measurements. Tennis Warehouse places it among its best overall scores.
Comfort (8.0/10) and stability (8.2/10) trail the baseline models, which makes sense for a shoe that weighs 85 g less than a Gel-Resolution X in 2E. The drop is 11 mm, against 9.9 mm for the Nike Vapor 12.
Its real flaw lies elsewhere. The slimmed-down rubber only scores 6.2/10 for durability, and no outsole warranty was found. For a light competitive player, that is an acceptable trade-off. For a player who wears through outsoles, it is the wrong model.
Solution Speed FF 4 or FF 3: what has changed?
Two things are documented: the foam and the rubber.
The foam first. RunRepeat measures the Flytefoam at 38.6 on its hardness scale, 18% softer than the Solution Speed FF 3's. For a speed shoe, that is a clear improvement over long matches.
Then the rubber. The FF 4's AHAR outsole was redesigned by algorithm: reinforced in the wear zones, removed elsewhere. That is what keeps it at 371 g in a US 10.5, and it is also what explains the durability score.
The rest is not disclosed in the sources consulted: no weight comparison in figures between the two generations, no comparative wear test.
Should you look for an end-of-line FF 3? The idea holds up when the price drops substantially, since a tennis shoe's cushioning lasts 45 to 60 hours whatever the vintage. Two caveats apply. The AAPSM advises replacing an athletic shoe more than a year old, even lightly used, because foam and rubber dry out: an FF 3 that has sat in stock for a long time has already started that clock. And you give up the softer foam, which is the FF 4's main contribution.

Solution Speed FF 4 or Nike Vapor 12: which one for a fast player?
The Nike Vapor 12 for most players, the Asics for a light competitor with a wide foot.
In our ratings, the Vapor 12 beats the Solution Speed FF 4 everywhere except lightness, where they tie (9.3): grip 9.4 vs 9.0, comfort 8.8 vs 8.0, stability 8.8 vs 8.2, durability 7.2 vs 6.2. The Asics keeps the edge on the scales, 371 g against 414 g in a men's US 10.5, or 43 g per shoe.
The durability gap comes down to the toe. According to the Tennis Warehouse review, Nike removed much of the Vapor 12's rubber to lighten it, but left a large drag guard on the toe, where the foot scrapes on serve. Asics discloses nothing comparable for the Solution Speed FF 4.
Fit tips the balance the other way. The Vapor 12 fits snug in width, with a low arch. The Solution Speed FF 4 has a standard fit: for a wide forefoot, that is a stronger argument than the 43 g.
If the outsole is your priority, look at the Nike Vapor Pro 3. RunRepeat reports solid durability even in the wear zones, with Hart rubber right up to the toe: 8.6/10 in our ratings, 425 g, around €117 in Belgium.

Does the Solution Speed FF 4 suit clay and indoor courts?
Clay, yes, and that is where it makes the most sense. Carpet, no.
The Solution Speed FF 4 comes in an all-court version and a clay version, sold separately. In Belgium, Tennis-Point.be and Passasports offer the clay version, Decathlon.be and Zalando the all-court version.
Clay changes the durability calculation. More than eight courts in ten are crushed-brick clay in Belgium, according to RTBF, and clay wears the outsole far less than hard courts, as Tennis Companion points out. On that surface, the 6.2/10 for durability matters little: it is the cushioning, after 45 to 60 hours, that will decide when to replace the pair. An interclub player whose season runs from April to September on clay gets the featherweight without paying the price.
Winter is another matter. Under a bubble or indoors on GreenSet, a hard surface, the all-court version is suitable, but that is where the slimmed-down rubber wears fastest. If you play three times a week on hard courts from November to March, plan a more durable pair for that season.
On carpet, you need a completely smooth, non-marking outsole, according to Decathlon: too much tread locks the foot. Neither the all-court nor the clay version is made for that.
The article on clay versus hard court wear explains this two-pair logic.
How much does the Solution Speed FF 4 cost in Belgium, and what is it worth per hour of play?
Around €132 in average prices checked in Belgium between June and September 2026, against a €160 list price at Tennis Warehouse Europe, where current colourways are listed between €144 and €160. You can find it at Tennis-Point.be, Passasports, Decathlon.be and Zalando.
The price that matters is the price per hour of play. Based on 45 to 60 hours before the cushioning wears out, a Solution Speed FF 4 at €132 works out at €2.20 to €2.95 per hour. That is less than a Nike Vapor 12 at €159 (€2.65 to €3.55), and more than a Nike Vapor Pro 3 at €117 (€1.95 to €2.60).
That calculation assumes the rubber reaches 45 hours. On clay, it will. On hard courts, for a player who slides or drags a foot on serve, an outsole rated 6.2/10 can wear through sooner, and each hour of play then costs more than the price tag suggests. The Vapor Pro 3, cheaper and rated 8.6 for durability, is in that case the best calculation of the three.
Do not count on a warranty. The Solution Speed FF 4 is not among the models covered by the Tennis Warehouse 6-month guarantee, which only applies in the United States anyway, and Tennis Warehouse Europe refers to the manufacturer's warranty, which covers defects but not normal wear.
The brand's full range is on the Asics page, and the article on cost per hour of play compares nine models with the same method.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Asics Solution Speed FF 4 any good in 2026?
It is a very light, grippy speed shoe: 8.6/10 in our editorial scores, 9.3/10 for lightness (371 g in a men's US 10.5) and 9.0/10 for grip, for around €132 in Belgium. Its slimmed-down rubber only scores 6.2/10 for durability.
How much does the Asics Solution Speed FF 4 weigh?
13.1 oz, or about 371 g, in a men's US 10.5 according to Tennis Warehouse. That is 43 g less per shoe than the Nike Vapor 12 (414 g) and 54 g less than the Nike Vapor Pro 3 (425 g).
Is the Solution Speed FF 4 durable?
Less so than Asics' other competition shoes: 6.2/10 for durability, against 9.0 for the Gel-Resolution X. Asics removed AHAR rubber outside the wear zones to save weight. On clay that matters little; on hard courts, a player who slides will wear it out quickly.
How much does the Solution Speed FF 4 cost in Belgium?
Around €132, in average prices checked between June and September 2026, against a €160 list price. Per hour of play, it works out at €2.20 to €2.95, based on 45 to 60 hours before the cushioning wears out, provided the outsole lasts that long.
Does the Solution Speed FF 4 have a 6-month outsole warranty?
No. No outsole warranty was found for this model, either from Asics or from the US retailer Tennis Warehouse. In Belgium, the 2-year legal guarantee covers manufacturing defects, not normal wear of the rubber.
Does the Solution Speed FF 4 contain recycled materials?
No recycled percentage is published. RunRepeat reports a solution-dyed insole, a process said to use about 33% less water and 45% less CO₂ than conventional dyeing. The most sustainable shoe is still the one you keep longest, and its slimmed-down rubber does not help there.
