Reviews Adidas Adizero Ubersonic 5

The Adidas Adizero Ubersonic 5 is Adidas's speed shoe: 9.2/10 for lightness, 388 g in a US 10.5, a Speedframe chassis that locks the heel. Its outsole scores 5.5/10 for durability and its cushioning is minimal. Around €116 in Belgium.

8.3

Verdict

The Adidas Adizero Ubersonic 5 scores 8.3/10. It does what it was designed for: go fast. Its lightness score reaches 9.2/10, its grip 8.6, and the Speedframe chassis, new on this generation, holds the heel through changes of direction. The rest comes at a cost. RunRepeat rates the Lightstrike cushioning as almost non-existent, hence 7.6/10 for comfort, and stability stops at 7.8. Durability is rated 5.5/10: the Adiwear rubber with its modified herringbone held up well in the Tennis Warehouse test, but the build chases weight, not hours, and no outsole warranty has been identified. It runs small, and Adidas advises going half a size up. At around €116 in Belgium, it works out at €1.95 to €2.60 per hour of play. At Nike, the Vapor 12 does better across the board for €159, and the Vapor Pro 3 offers 8.6/10 for durability at the same price as the Adidas. The Ubersonic 5 suits the light, fast player, especially on clay.

Outsole lifespan

The Adizero Ubersonic 5 has Adiwear rubber with a modified herringbone, and the Tennis Warehouse test finds its upper and outsole solid. Our ratings stay cautious, at 5.5/10: the shoe is built for lightness, no abrasion measurement is available in our sources and no outsole warranty has been identified, either at Adidas or at the retailers consulted. In Belgium, the 2-year legal guarantee covers defects, not wear. The cushioning, already firm when new, follows the AAPSM's general benchmark: 45 to 60 hours of play. On clay, a low-abrasion surface, the rubber will last clearly longer than on hard courts.

Pros

  • Lightness rated 9.2/10, among the best scores of our 37 models
  • Speedframe chassis that locks the heel on every push-off
  • Court feel and responsiveness noted by RunRepeat
  • Upper and outsole found to be solid in the Tennis Warehouse test
  • Around €116 in average prices checked in Belgium, for a list price close to €150

Cons

  • Almost no cushioning according to RunRepeat: the knees take the load
  • Durability of 5.5/10 in our ratings, with no outsole warranty identified
  • Runs small: half a size up, according to Adidas

How long does the Adidas Adizero Ubersonic 5 outsole last?

Not as long as a baseliner's shoe, and that is a design choice: the Adizero Ubersonic 5 scores 5.5/10 for durability in our editorial ratings. No lifespan in hours is published for its rubber.

The tests are in fact fairly reassuring. The outsole is Adiwear, the rubber family Adidas also uses on the Barricade 13, here with a modified herringbone. The Tennis Warehouse review, carried out on the women's version, finds good durability in both the upper and the outsole.

So why 5.5? Because a speed shoe carries less material than a Barricade, and because our sources give no abrasion measurement for this model. I would rather give a cautious score than a flattering one. No pair is judged without the lifespan of its outsole, and when the data is missing, the score says so.

There is no safety net either. No outsole warranty has been identified for the Ubersonic 5, at Adidas or at the retailers consulted. In Belgium, the 2-year legal guarantee covers a defect, not scraped rubber.

The cushioning runs on its own clock: 45 to 60 hours of tennis according to the AAPSM. At three hours a week, that is 15 to 20 weeks. On a shoe whose foam is already firm when new, keep a close eye on that mark.

The article comparing tennis outsole rubbers sets Adiwear against the Nike and Asics compounds.

Is the Adidas Adizero Ubersonic 5 any good in 2026?

It is an out-and-out speed shoe: 8.3/10 overall, 9.2/10 for lightness, 8.6/10 for grip. The first colourways came out on 3 December 2024.

Its spec sheet is short. Lightstrike foam, a Speedframe chassis, a lightweight mesh upper reinforced on the sides, Adiwear rubber. It weighs 388 g in a men's US 10.5 according to RunRepeat, and about 318 g in a women's US 8.5. Its drop is 11.1 mm.

RunRepeat highlights very good court feel and responsiveness. The heel is well held. The two criteria where it falls back are comfort, 7.6/10, and stability, 7.8/10: a low, light shoe supports less than a Barricade 14, rated 9.3 on that point.

It does not appear in any of our seven rankings. That is not a punishment: the rankings keep eight to ten models, and its durability score counts against it in every sorting formula. The competition ranking is led by the Nike Vapor 12 and the Vapor Pro 3, with the Asics Solution Speed FF 4 in fourth place.

Who is it for? The light, fast player who covers a lot of ground and wants to feel nothing on the feet. Not for a heavy build, nor for anyone whose knees complain. The Adidas page puts the model in the context of the range.

Adizero Ubersonic 5 or Ubersonic 4: what has changed?

The heel, mostly. Adidas presented the Ubersonic 5 around one new feature, the Speedframe chassis, which the brand puts forward in its launch announcement. The tests confirm its effect: the heel is locked in on every push-off.

The outsole changes too. The Ubersonic 5 moves to a modified herringbone, still in Adiwear.

I have no measured spec sheet for the Ubersonic 4 to set against it: the weight, drop and cushioning of the old version are not given in the sources consulted. I am not going to make them up.

There is, however, an indirect point of comparison. The Adidas Defiant Speed 2, released in 2024, reuses the Ubersonic 4 outsole, with its classic herringbone. According to RunRepeat, it is lively and breathable, with a thin 17 mm forefoot and an 11.8 mm drop, against 11.1 mm for the Ubersonic 5. It is seen around €89 in Belgium, or €27 less.

If you find an end-of-line Ubersonic 4, the reasoning is simple. No published measurement tells us which of the two outsoles lasts longer. What you will not get is the Speedframe. Check the size: the 5 runs small, and nothing says the 4 should be chosen the same way. Try it on.

What size should you take, and is the cushioning enough?

Go half a size up from your usual size. That is Adidas's own advice for the Ubersonic 5, which runs small.

The fitting rules are the same as for any tennis shoe. Try it on at the end of the day, when the foot has swollen, with your match socks, and keep a thumb's width, 0.9 to 1.3 cm, in front of your longest toe. If you order online, check the returns policy before choosing between two sizes.

Cushioning is the other thing to know before buying. RunRepeat measures 82 SA at the heel and rates the cushioning as almost non-existent: the knees are put to work. The Lightstrike foam is there to transmit the push-off, not absorb it.

Is that a flaw? For a light player who wants to feel the court, no, that is the whole point of a speed shoe. For a 90 kg player stringing together two hours at the baseline, yes. Our comfort score, 7.6/10, is the lowest of the speed shoes compared here: the Nike Vapor 12 scores 8.8 with its Air Zoom heel unit, the Asics Solution Speed FF 4 scores 8.0.

If you are unsure about your knees, look at the Nike GP Challenge 1.5, rated 9.4/10 for comfort, or the comfort ranking. Persistent pain is a matter for a podiatrist or a physiotherapist, not a change of shoe.

Ubersonic 5 or Nike Vapor 12, Vapor Pro 3: which speed shoe lasts longest?

The Nike Vapor Pro 3, then the Vapor 12, then the Ubersonic 5. For durability, the three models score 8.6, 7.2 and 5.5/10.

The Nike Vapor 12 is the benchmark in the category: 9.2/10 overall, 9.4 for grip, 9.3 for lightness, 8.8 for comfort. Nike removed rubber to lighten it, and the Tennis Warehouse review sees the outsole wear smooth in the usual places. It still keeps a 1.7-point lead over the Adidas for durability, with moulded PU on the toe. It costs around €159 in Belgium.

The Nike Vapor Pro 3 is the Ubersonic 5's real rival, because it costs the same: around €117. For that price, it offers 8.6/10 for durability, with rubber all the way to the toe according to RunRepeat, 8.8 for stability and 8.4 for comfort. It is heavier: 425 g in a US 10.5, against 388 g.

The Asics Solution Speed FF 4 completes the picture. 371 g, grip at 9.0/10, but a lightened outsole rated 6.2 for durability, for around €132.

What is left for the Ubersonic 5? Weight against the two Nikes, and heel lockdown. You play mostly on clay, where the rubber wears little, and you want the lightest possible shoe under €120: it holds its own. You play on hard courts or indoors several times a week: the Vapor Pro 3 will last longer for the same budget. The comparison tool lines up all four models.

How much does the Adizero Ubersonic 5 cost in Belgium, and what does an hour of play come to?

Around €116 in average prices checked in Belgium between June and September 2026. Its reference price is about €150 at Tennis Warehouse Europe, and $149.95 in the United States.

The price that matters is the price per hour of play. Over 45 to 60 hours of cushioning, an Ubersonic 5 at €116 works out at €1.95 to €2.60 per hour. That is the cost of a Nike Vapor Pro 3, less than an Asics Solution Speed FF 4 at €132 (€2.20 to €2.95) and clearly less than a Nike Vapor 12 at €159 (€2.65 to €3.55).

That sum has one condition: the outsole must last as long as the cushioning. With 5.5/10 for durability, that is not a given on hard courts for a player who slides or drags a foot. A pair worn through at 35 hours comes to €3.30 per hour.

Where can you find it? The retailer listings recorded in Belgium are at Tennis-Point.be, Passasports, Decathlon.be and adidas.be, in the men's all-court version. The model also comes in a clay version: check the surface stated on the listing before ordering, because not all the listings recorded specify it.

A note on timing. Promotions can appear all year round in Belgium, and the gap already seen between the reference price and the average price, €34, shows that this model gets discounted. The article on cost per hour of play applies the calculation to nine models.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Adidas Adizero Ubersonic 5 any good in 2026?

It is a speed shoe rated 8.3/10: 9.2/10 for lightness, 8.6 for grip, 388 g in a US 10.5 and a Speedframe chassis that holds the heel. Its limits are minimal cushioning, durability at 5.5/10 and a fit that runs small. Around €116 in Belgium.

Does the Adidas Ubersonic 5 run small?

Yes. Adidas recommends going half a size up from your usual size. Try it on at the end of the day, with your tennis socks, keeping 0.9 to 1.3 cm in front of your longest toe.

Cushioning or court feel: which does the Ubersonic 5 favour?

Court feel. RunRepeat rates its Lightstrike cushioning as almost non-existent and notes that the knees are put to work. Our comfort score is 7.6/10, against 8.8 for the Nike Vapor 12 and 9.4 for the Nike GP Challenge 1.5.

Is there an Adidas Ubersonic 5 for clay courts?

Yes, the model comes in all-court and clay versions. More than eight Belgian courts in ten are clay according to RTBF, and that surface wears the rubber little: it is where its 5.5/10 durability matters least. Check the surface stated on the retailer's listing.

Can you play padel in an Adidas Ubersonic 5?

That is not what it is for. According to Wilson, a padel shoe is reinforced on the outer side and through the midfoot, a tennis shoe for lateral sprints and toe drag. The herringbone clay version can do in a pinch, but get a padel shoe for padel.
